Vamos Theatre brings together a number of ex-Trestle Theatre members to create Nursing Lives, a full-mask theatre production alive with visual inventiveness, evocative music and song, physical theatre and 1940s dance sequences. The work originates from the true stories of nurses at the former Worcester Royal Infirmary. At its heart, Nursing Lives is a human story that celebrates nurses at work and play during the years of World War II.
In 1939 Florence is a young trainee nurse thrown directly into the harsh realities of work on the ward. She encounters the wrath of Sister Martin; endures and enjoys the pranks of fellow nurses, falls in love with her soldier sweetheart, Johnny; and confronts the heart wrenching inequalities in the use of the new super drug penicillin.....will her dream of saving lives come true?
Nursing Lives is funny, touching, at times harrowing, but always uplifting and unforgettable. It is designed to appeal to audiences of all ages (8-80 years).

Stanley Ayers’ humdrum existence is transformed when he meets a young woman who introduces him to life. Stanley has always had aspirations of success in business and his anonymity at work has always been a cause of distress. When offered the opportunity to impress his boss he cannot resist. His choice costs him his girlfriend and his futile attempts to regain her love lead to despair and retreat.
The performance confronts a subject explored many times throughout the history of theatre; to be or not to be? We have a mesmerising curiosity with this macabre subject yet in everyday life it remains a relative taboo, as Dan Bell of BBC news says “If suicide is the second most serious public health issue for young men, why don't we know about it?”
The performance blends physical characterisation, delicate storytelling, integrated technology and choreographed physical sequences. Anomic use all of the elements of the performance to tell the story in the most visually and
aurally stimulating way possible. The combination and reinvention of stylistic elements helps to contribute to the performance’s visual impact, creating an eclectic, visual feast that all audiences will enjoy.
