Youth Theatre @ The Courtyard
At The Courtyard we have one of the biggest Youth Theatres in Herefordshire with over 300 young people taking part each week. They are led by David, Kate and Helen and are split down into 4 different stages depending on your school year. For a full schedule of classes download the document underneath the image to your right.
New Autumn Classes Starting w/c 6 September!
(Download the timetable on the right for details)
Courtyard Kids
Helen leads Courtyard Kids which caters for Reception – Year 2 and is on a Wednesday afternoon. In these sessions you’ll have lots of fun playing different drama games and get to meet loads of new people from different schools. The cost per term is £50.
Junior Youth Theatre
Our Junior Youth Theatre is for Years 3 – 9 and is on a Saturday (but we have 2 Year 7 classes and one of them is on a Friday) and is led by David or Kate. David is a professional Stage Combat instructor and Kate specialises in Physical Theatre and Devised Theatre. The cost per term is £55.
Intermediate Youth Theatre
When you join our Intermediate Youth Theatre (for Years 10 & 11), the work starts to become more intense. The sessions move to either a Wednesday evening for Year 10s or a Friday evening for Year 11s, and run for 90 minutes. You’ll be treated as a young professional theatre company. You’ll be looking at scripts that have shaped British theatre as well as developing your thoughts on what is good or bad theatre. We may start to look at different performance styles (e.g. In-the-Round or promenade) and how this changes the relationship between actor and audience. We try and stage a small scale production in the Studio Theatre each year but we are careful not to clash with any school exams. The cost per term is £55.
Senior Youth Theatre
The Senior Youth Theatre is for anyone aged 16 – 23; these classes are also led by David or Kate with the ethos of the group very much about performing and developing your performance skills. By now you will have the mastered the basic skills of performing and you’ll now be challenged as an individual actor whilst supporting your other company members. Many of the students go on to University or Drama School to further increase their acting skill and this is a good base on which to leave. The cost per term is £55.

Youth Theatre Productions
Junior Youth Theatre
Every other year we are able to stage a professional production in the Main House that is fully supported by our technical and marketing teams. We employ a professional creative team to work on the production, which makes this a unique opportunity within Herefordshire. Last year we produced The Wizard of Oz and had fantastic feedback; many hailing it as our best Youth Theatre production to date. Next year we’ll be producing one of Roald Dahl’s classics... but you’ll have to wait to find out what it is!
Senior Youth Theatre
As with the Junior show, this is biennial. This year we produced two different plays; one was The History Boys which was performed at The Courtyard in July, and the other was a devised piece for Nozstock Festival. In order to showcase all of the talent that we have we needed to split the company into 2 different groups. At this stage you need to have the opportunity to showcase your talent and having one production with all members make that difficult. That said, this is the first time we have attempted to do it this way but so far the feedback has been positive.
