Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Ledbury Youth Theatre

A fantastic show!

This term, Ledbury Youth Theatre brought to life the Roald Dahl classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Adapted for stage by Richard George, the tale follows the story of Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket to explore Willy Wonka’s marvellous chocolate factory. The performance combined our intermediates and seniors, with the addition of Ledbury’s Diddystars group, adding a little bit of extra magic! The show was performed at The Market Theatre on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June.

‘I really enjoyed being a part of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because I loved working with new people I don’t know from school. I also loved the skills I developed as we learnt dance which isn’t my strong point, however doing the show helped me improve. The dances were one of my favourite parts of the show. I love how welcoming everyone is as this was my first show with Ledbury.’

‘It has been the greatest experience ever, I have had so much fun! This has been my first show with Ledbury Theatre group and it has been an honour playing a main character!’

With any project, we aim to push Youth Theatre to develop skills in new areas. As well as acting, the group were set the challenge of singing and dancing (at the same time!) Some of the group developed their leadership skills in devising scenes and choreographing routines, teaching their work to the younger years. The show embodied a collaborative approach and meant that this classic tale was given a Youth Theatre twist. The performance was very much their own, oozing fun, energy, and enthusiasm!

‘I really liked how collaborative the process was. We were allowed a say in what happened and had a lot of freedom when developing characters. It was a great environment and overall so much fun!’
