We are currently closed to public – we only have a very small number of staff working off-site. This means we are not able to accept phone calls at present. We are hoping to reopen

Following the Government’s proposed roadmap, the team at The Courtyard is now planning for a safe reopening.

We’re excited to open our newly transformed building (visit the #TransformTheYard Page to see the latest). But are fully aware that the proposed dates are dependent on data and could be subject to change once more. Therefore, we’re trying to keep our plans flexible and proceed positively, but cautiously!

May – We are hoping to open our extended Café Bar and brand-new beautiful Restaurant, The Courtyard Chase Lounge from 21 May.  We will also look to start hosting socially distanced cinema. We will announce more detailed dates and programme closer to the time.

June – From 21 June, we are beginning to programme activities with the hope of larger audience capacities. However, it is likely these will initially go on sale with social distancing in place, until we have more concrete guidance from the Government.

A lot of our classes and workshops have already reconvened online. So we will continue this until we know for sure we can bring them back in to the building safely.

We know some visitors will remain cautious about returning to a public building. We will continue to listen to our audiences and adapt our activities to ensure everyone feels safe and secure at The Courtyard.

Please keep checking our social media, website, blog and e-newsletters for updates on our programme and other news.

Whilst the world slowly returns to a new normal, we look forward to The Courtyard being the place where we can all meet, relax, indulge, get creative, be entertained and, most importantly, recover, together.
Thank you

Cancelled or Postponed Events

Click here for the full list of cancelled/postponed events.

Events until 31 May 2021 are now cancelled or postponed. This time period is in constant review. We are contacting affected customers via email with your options, so please check your emails and double check spam folders if you cannot find yours. If you have booked for multiple shows during this affected period, please bear in mind that you may receive multiple emails as the process has to be done individually per event.

We are a charity and refunding everyone will be financially devastating for us. Therefore, we are asking customers to kindly consider donating the cost of the ticket, or take a credit to use at a later date, rather than requesting a refund. We realise not everyone will be in a position to do this, but we’re also hoping, that when all this is over, we’ll be able to open our doors to entertain you once again.

Rescheduled Shows

Where an event has been rescheduled, the new date will be in your email and you will have the option to “Keep Tickets”, if you select this we will move you to the same seats on the new date.

If you request a refund going please bear in mind that this can take up to 28 days to show on your account. If you believe you requested a refund and haven’t received it after that time frame, please email Box Office at

What if I don’t have email or didn’t leave my contact details?

If you do not use email, or did not provide us with your email address, there is unfortunately nothing we can do at this time. You will automatically receive a credit to your Courtyard account for now. When we are back open, we will get in touch with anyone with a phone number, but no email, to talk through your options. If you have not left any contact details at all, you will be credited and it will be available to spend on future events for 2 years. We really urge customers to leave their contact details with us in the future.

If you are booked on to an affected event, and haven’t heard from us – please double check your emails and spam folders – if there’s nothing from us, please email and give us the following information:

Tuesday 17 March 2020: Latest update from The Courtyard Hereford regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Following official government advice issued on Monday 16 March, which stipulates that people should avoid public buildings including theatres, we regret to announce that The Courtyard will be closed as of 9am on Tuesday 17 March, to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Closing is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, and we know it will have a severe impact on the many people working with us – but we have a responsibility to our community and remaining open is just not an option anymore. We will remain closed until further notice and all events for the next month will be postponed – this time period will be in constant review. We will look to re-open as soon as possible, following government recommendations.

We will be contacting all affected customers as soon as possible to make arrangements. Please, please bear in mind that our customer service teams will be extremely busy and we ask you to be patient in this unprecedented time. We will be setting up a plan of action and prioritising contacting customers based on the date of the events and those who live furthest away. Please look out in your emails as we will also try to automate as much as we can via email.

We are extremely grateful to all of our audiences who have continued to support us for as long as they can, and to all of our theatre staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly since the outbreak to ensure the safety of visitors.

The arts have historically been something that continues to bring people together in times of crisis and we’re sorry we’re not able to do this in our usual way. We are first and foremost your community venue and we will be looking at other ways to remain being there for you during these unprecedented times.

Keep your spirits high and be there for each other is all we can ask.

Tuesday 10 March: Message from The Courtyard Hereford regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

At The Courtyard we have been keeping a close eye on the developments of the situation surrounding Coronavirus / COVID-19 and following advice from the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

Current Government guidance states there is no clear rationale to cancel events presently, and business as usual is encouraged. We’re therefore staying open as usual, but taking the situation very seriously and taking lots of measures to minimise any risk. We encourage all visitors to read and follow the latest NHS guidance.

This is of course an ever-changing situation and we will continue to closely follow guidance from Public Health England.

Please be assured that the health and safety of our staff, customers and volunteers is paramount to all at The Courtyard and we are taking all necessary steps.

What we’re doing

The Courtyard will be making provision of the following:

  • NHS Information Posters have been placed in our staff and customer facing areas to support the Government’s UK-wide public information campaign
  • All staff are following the NHS guidelines thoroughly including washing hands regularly, on arrival at work, after handling cash or touching others. Also putting themselves in self-isolation if they shows any symptoms.
  • Shared workspaces and equipment is disinfected between users
  • All offices supplied with bactericidal cleaner
  • Photocopier, keypads and touchscreens wiped between users
  • Stewards will not handle tickets or touch customers
  • We have removed the children’s play area
  • We have removed push lids from our bins so there’s no need to touch them
  • Handrails and doors in auditorium are disinfected between all screenings/events
  • We are implementing additional housekeeping throughout the day
  • We are removing shared browsing materials such as flyers and menus on tables and encouraging people to take and keep leaflets rather thank looking and putting back. Menus will be disinfected between use and made available from bar.

For more up to date information from the government, visit their website:

What you can do

We ask audience members to also play a part in prevention, please refer to the NHS guidance here.

Customers who are visiting The Courtyard could also make provision of the following:

  • First and foremost, ensure you are following government and NHS guidelines
  • Self isolate if you are showing any symptoms or are vulnerable.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap before you leave for your visit, whether it be leaving home, work, or a restaurant for a pre-theatre meal
  • Use hand sanitizer if warm water and soap is not available, such as if you are using public transport
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth if your hands aren’t clean
  • Take a packet of tissues into the performance and ensure they are readily available to catch a cold or sneeze, be prepared to offer them to fellow audience members around you who may not have one, and dispose of it in a bin at the soonest opportunity.
  • If you don’t have access to tissues, use your sleeve rather than your hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell in general
  • Try to select E-tickets where possible to reduce unnecessary contact with staff and stewards
  • Use card/contactless payments where possible to avoid handling cash and additional contact

If you develop the symptoms of Coronavirus (found on the NHS website), you should stay home, isolate and visit or call 111 for advice from the NHS.

Latest Guidance

Please ensure you consult the Public Health England website for the latest and most current information and advice.

The government plan published on 3 March is here.

Currently, we are not making decisions to cancel events until a time we are instructed to do so. Some events will cancel with us, in which case we will get in touch with those who have booked and customers will be given the option to receive credit to use at The Courtyard in the future, gift the cost as a donation or be refunded in full. We are following government guidelines thoroughly and implore customers to do the same. We will only be issuing refunds in the event of cancellation.
