What is Radix Film Club?

Radix: A Latin word meaning ‘root’, which later became ‘radical’.

Hereford has been long overdue a space for cinephiles to explore, share and discuss the world of film. Enter: Radix Film Club! Founded by The Courtyard and a team of Young Film Programmers, this film club is dedicated to exploring the broader world of film, that might not typically make its way to Hereford’s screens.

Here’s how it works: Every month there will be on Radix Film Club screening on the middle Monday of the month at 6.30pm, as an example, coming up in April we have David Lynch’s Eraserhead on Monday 14. Each month we alternate between a new release and a retrospective (sometimes even on 35mm), so there’s room to explore film history as well as exciting new titles. You can see the list of what we’ve shown so far at the bottom of this article.

These screenings feature no advertisements but there’ll be a brief introduction to the film and maybe a trailer or two (but who doesn’t love the trailers!)

After the screening you can collect a commemorative sticker designed exclusively for that event by a local artist and make your way to the bar to get 10% off with your ticket. We then congregate around some tables and discuss anything and everything there is to say about the evenings film! It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet other film lovers and get the chance to voice your thoughts.

The goal of this club is to push the boundaries of cinema, so maybe not every film will be for you. We would encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, and even if you end up hating it stick around to tell us why, but maybe not every month is for you. This can be a club you dip in and out of, but we hope to continue to build roots between film lovers that have a welcoming and exciting environment they can attend. We hope to see you there!

These events are supported by Film Hub Midlands, BFI and The National Lottery.
